Michael J. Scanlon, Jr., CFA, is a managing director and portfolio manager at Manulife Investment Management, as well as a member of the Capital Appreciation Team. Michael is the co-lead portfolio manager of the John Hancock Balanced Fund (USA), Manulife US Opportunities Fund (Canada) and the Large Cap Equity institutional equity strategy. In addition to his portfolio manager responsibilities, Michael provides fundamental equity research on consumer, technology and telecom companies for all diversified strategies managed by the company’s Capital Appreciation Team.

Prior to joining Manulife, Michael spent four years at State Street Corporation as a credit analyst. He is regularly quoted in leading business newspapers and magazines, including The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s and The New York Times, and he is a frequent guest on CNBC and Bloomberg Television. He is a CFA charterholder and a member of the CFA Society Boston, Inc. and the CFA Institute.
